Pointing out Luton’s faults…

and wanting the town to get better, doesn’t mean that you can’t be proud to be a Lutonian, and it doesn’t mean you’re slagging the town off.
With its location and transport links, it’s a place with so much potential. The council simply haven’t made enough of that potential, and I don’t believe that’s all down to cut backs.
I want to want to go into Luton again for reasons other than football. Again, hopefully Power Court will be the start of things changing.
Luton town centre is a shit hole sadly, years of incompetence in the town hall hasn’t helped, sadly I doubt things will change, I like you only visit Luton for the game and wouldn’t go there for anything else.
That takes the prize for today's most stupid comment. In case you are not familiar with Oxford Street it is full of shops and like all town and city centres, due to the internet, is in decline. Linking that to 'decline in the economy', at best is political and at worst ignorance.
Not the case with Bicester Village, this is the way forward for retail. Trafford Centre is also modern with good shops entertainment and successful. Both with free parking, some towns make life so difficult and expensive to park.
Almost every town/city centre in England is a dump. The traditional high street and the more modern shopping malls started to die at least 20 years ago because of internet shopping and a mixture of denial and lack of imagination about what to do about it have helped to create the current reality. There's a shortage of housing and an over abundance of un-used real estate in all these places where the shops once stood. It's not rocket science. But the addition of anti social behaviour, drugs, violence, vandalism etc in these places means investors are wary of taking a big gamble to transform these places. That's my basic take on it. I do think the increasing prevalence of drug taking is leading to an overall breakdown in common decency as well which is another major contributing factor that doesn't have an easy solution.
I'm an exile and been away for over 25 years returning only for football. It's got a lot worse in the last 10 years , many of Luton town centres issues will not be corrected by a few new buildings or a shiny football stadium. Poverty , homelessness & mental health problems all apparent on every short walk to and from the town centre via KR. So sad to see but not exclusive to Luton either ...
Luton has one simple problem, the town centre is stuck in the 70's, and to make matters worse, it's probably the old area of Luton where there are leisure or shopping facilities. Bedford is no better. I now live in Hull, the contrast is stark
