My walk for the Man City game..

Posted by Old Black& White on 10/1/2024, 19:24:52

Was from the Club shop , just as I went past the corner of the old Heights/ Nickel bag pub, I met some Mancs coming out of the Red Lion Hotel( they moaned about the lack of pubs for away fans, but seemed decent types)

We were nearly bowled over by an electric scooter, then I noticed someone on a mattress, next to the first Arndale entrance.
As mentioned earlier a little knot of really menacing Eastern Europeans near Don Millers, then 2 beggars as we got past Town Hall, the whole way from there to ground the lovely aroma of wacky Baccy, and then I made the Mancs laugh as I said “ A prize to the first one who spots an abandoned Mattress in front of the Houses on Hazlebury.( There were 2)

Yep Luton is a Shithole( as are many other towns )

And if anyone thinks Power Court will make a difference to that area they are deluded.
I love KR, but would I miss the walk up there?.. will I bolox.

For me it will be straight off the Train, decent pint in the Brickies, and then onto PC, then back home on Train.

It’s a shame as I recall going shopping with my Mum as a Nipper, and cracking nights out in Luton at the clubs and pubs in the seventies and early eighties.

Sadly I agree. And I'm fiercely defensive of my home town.

Everytime I come back the decline seems more visible and obvious.

It's fast becoming a left behind place. It's like Stoke. It's not just the council's fault, just the entire system isn't set up to properly regenerate towns.

Has anyone from LBC ever asked the citizens to be truly engaged with what they want? All we ever get is the opportunity to comment on already agreed plans. And everything is housing led. The town doesn't neccessarily need new houses. It needs solutions to the problems which are so very deeply engrained and becoming very obvious.

Pretty much like the walk from Manchester's Picadilly Station down to the desolation of the Gardens then, except with less pubs on one hand but definitely less beggars and drug sellers/users on the other.

If those were actually Mancs, they'll have seen nothing new or unusual to them.

One was a “ Typical Manc” dressed in fishtail Parker, and a Mod / Paul Weller/ Noel Gallagher hair style… he looked about 75.

Funny enough he commented on the Town Hall , quite complimentary if I recall, they were well oiled by then though..,

They were probably from Stockport, a large amount of Cit-eh fans are.

Old blokes with clothes and hair cuts like wannabee Weller/Gallaghers are pretty cringeworthy aren't they!

The Town Hall, we take for granted. It's a great piece of architecture, as is the war memorial. And St Mary's will be a stunning backdrop for Power Court.

That's some serious stereotyping there Crumps. You're better than joining in with that.
Plenty of City fans live in Manchester. Plenty live all over South Manchester and into Lancashire and Cheshire. Their support is nearly as spread out as ours. The 'probably Stockport ' thing is very clichè.

+1, the Town Hall is a brilliant building imo.

Even growing up in the 90s/00s it wasn’t that bad. I always preferred shopping in Luton to MK.

I’m sure it was already declining by that point, but the decline in the last 10 or so years has been so rapid.

You knew things were bad when the Toby Carvery only stayed open a year! Five Guys was a matter of months.
