Alfie - Penalty
Posted by Sgutupya on 8/1/2024, 16:25:21
Just seen the highlights .... at the time from my seat in the Kenny I didn't think it was a penalty but seeing it again makes me wonder why VAR didn't recommend a review ...................... and then I realised what I just typed "VAR".... say no more

It should have been a pen, I thought there was a review, if it was, it was very quick. I don't understand why AD didn't make an appeal. Bit strange
Actually you are right, he did, I'll come back with he should have run to the ref, shouting waving his arms, pulling his shirt and slapping his hands on the floor like a baby.
There is no appeal or appeal process in football. Alfie should be applauded for just getting on with it. If you think that players should wave their arms about and shout at the ref, go watch Arsenal
I know that there is no appeal protest in football. If our manager said it was a stonewall it was. Why he didn't throw his arm's up is something for AD to contemplate.
ere was, it was shown on the scoreboards but it was over very quickly.
Easy process for them . . . "Was it for a penalty to Luton"?
Yes.
No penalty.
Check ends.

Yeah, it's 100% a penalty. I know it shouldn't play a part, but I don't think Doughty's body language helped - on first viewing I'd assumed he'd dived as he didn't really appeal / just got up and jogged away.
Both penalties we have been given (v Brighton and Wolves) were derided as jokes by everyone else. (The Wolves pen should have been given, Brighton… no.) Doughty should have been a pen, but it wasn’t as wholly obvious as the West Ham handball. Those two apart, we’ve done alright for pens. The timewasting by Chelsea and diving by Arsenal are the only proper crap bits of reffing this season.
