Bolton are a big club with a great history

I expect us to win by 3 clear goal in a 7 0 trouncing
Having watched us against Gillingham and Exeter with weakened sides I think there may well be a cup upset on Sunday. I hope not as would be good to have a cup run good for confidence.
The analytics and managerial teams, while I’m sure giving Bolton due respect, will I assume be spending the bulk of their time working out how to address Burnley
Our history meant absolutely nothing 4 years ago when we were less than an hour from being wound up after years of being ground down by an asset-stripping owner. We were saved at the death by a consortium of local businessmen led by Shazza Brittan that included Pink Floyd's drummer and a local creditor. Bury weren't so lucky. We are far from rich, but Shazza has transformed the club into a genuine community/family organisation through extensive partnering locally and as a result has managed to bring back the crowds. Zero tolerance of dickheads has meant that over 50 troublemakers received lifetime bans. Our average gate is now over 20k and that includes a very high proportion of children nowadays. They work the stadium asset relentlessly in an effort to consolidate the finances. Pink started her worldwide tour at the stadium this summer for example. A recent bond release raised £5m and it has all gone into infrastructure - nothing spent on players. We agreed transfers with two clubs to sign quality players in the summer who would have massively improved the team, but the deals fell through as their personal terms demands exceeded our very strict wage cap. Our manager insists on trying to play like City/Barca with L1 standard players and when it comes off it's brilliant and when it doesn't we get battered but either way it's very entertaining - especially after the negative years we had to endure as we hurtled towards oblivion. We got promoted from L2 and won the Pizza Cup at Wembley in front of 80 thousand fans. This year we sold 16.5k season tickets. We are a decent League 1 team and that's our standard but we're financially stable, risk averse and most of us are just happy that we still exist.
Yes we have a great history - founding members, 4 times FA Cup winners, great European adventures etc etc - but that club is not the BWFC of today. Today we are a family club slowly getting back on our feet following a near death experience - and we're enjoying the journey.
I know what you lot have had to endure and your comeback from '08 and then again more recently - and believe me I'm not "preaching" - just pointing out where we're at ATM on that journey, how we're going about it - in the context of a thread that focuses on our history - because we aren't that club anymore. We are not the only clubs to have struggled to survive - whether due to dodgy owners, excessive punishment by the FA or fire sale of assets and I only have sympathy for any fans that have had to endure it. It's shit.
And to be fair, we do (rightly) slag off the clubs that still behave like idiots so it is good to see another club that has come through that and is trying to operate in a sustainable way.
If only more did I think we'd have a much more interesting set of leagues again.
I remember Bolton coming to KR with snow piled high around the pitch parameter having been cleared by fans during the Saturday morning, again I think in a 3rd rouñd cup match. Bolton won 1-0 with Nat Lofthouse header.
