    The irreplaceable Tom Lockyer

If, as I fear, Tom's playing career for us is over, he will be a massive loss to the team. It's hard to imagine anyone else in the squad with his leadership qualities. The way he gees up his team mates, his bravery in getting stuck in where it hurts, his voice on the pitch, and getting in the ear of referees to help our cause, have been great for the club. I think that Reece Burke is our most technically gifted centre-back, but I can't imagine him becoming the kind of leader Tom is. Just one from the current squad springs to mind as a possible replacement as leader. I think that, with encouragement, maybe Gabe Osho might grow into the role.

Understand these thoughts going through your head especially now Tom is now 'out of the woods' and in recovery. I still feel too shocked to even think about the future. It feels like the aftermath of Wembley x 2. Shock at Tom and shock at promotion even overshadowed by yesterday. Thankfully the club is so professionally run that despite the bad place the squad and management are in there will be folk thinking about the future rest assured College Hatter.

If, as expected, his playing days are over, I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a backroom place available for him at the club if he wanted it.

We have other strong personalities on the pitch but let's not think about just yet

Need to think about it for 6 days time. Not our job to consider it though. Has to be a guaranteed starter if available

Too early to speculate on outcomes.

Let’s just pray for the best outcome for all involved.

Hopefully his recovery will ensure quality of life outside of playing football.

                He's given everything for us.
now he needs to look after himself, some things are more important....

I don’t think he should keep playing. If your heart stops twice in a year on the pitch it’s time to not play anymore. I would miss him a lot in the team but I don’t want him to die.

I still can't get my head round it. As I said yesterday, as long as the lad is safe and well now I don't care about football at the moment.

I'm sure that will change when I walk to my seat next week, being side by side with my fellow supporters but at the moment it doesn't matter.
