On tonight's evidence, none of them close to breaking into the first team.

The value of that Chelsea side tonight is bigger than our first team. Their no9 cost them £17.5m alone and was marked out of the game by Ben Tompkins who cost £2.5k from Barnet 5 years ago.

Tompkins was excellent tonight. From the few times I’ve seen him and Aidan Francis-Clarke play, I’d have more confidence putting them in than Joe Johnson! But that’s just my opinion and I’m very likely wrong as Rob Edwards sees them every day at training. England selection for Johnson too.

Those days certainly seem to be over, sadly. Big academies appear to spread their nets even wider now and sign talent at younger ages. Jacob Vickers, probably the most promising player in last season’s successful under 18 team left for Brighton in the summer. The attached link is an August article of Newcastle signing a 14-year-old who had been with Luton for seven years.

I agree. Thought it was quite a good performance with lots of effort, and unlucky to lose. Second goal was a great strike, but came from a non-existent foul that only the referee saw!

At least one of those U21’s is on £50k a week. I’m not saying it makes them a decent player, but there’s the challenge!
