    TV licence increase of £10

Posted by no or yes on 7/12/2023, 15:46:33

Roughly £168,000000 less than they wanted so that's roughly 112 Gary Linekers they can't employ.

Calculation based on there are approximately 24,000000 licence fee payers.

Inflation, costs, wages up by 10+% over two years, seems about right to me. Don't see why BBC staff and the organisation cant expect to up income to meet costs like everyone one else has had to do

Happy with just a £10 increase certainly don't want any bigger increase as even more people would cancel - they lost 500000 last year thats too many.
I fully support the TV licence despite it being one of the most regressive taxes - its better than the alternatives.

..... but then I don't pay it cos I don't watch live TV or use iPlayer. Thanks to those who do pay it too - I used to listen to 3counties occasionally but now going to all games instead.

You can write to them as a "legal occupier" withdrawing their right of access to the property, the letters stop then.

That is fair, my point is you do not need a licence if you do not watch live TV, hence why there is no BBC+1 unlike all of the other channels.

I like paying my way but generally that's for things I have a choice of purchasing.
Foisting something upon me is inclined to have the opposite effect.

Attempting to criminalise people for something they have no choice on is ridiculous.

You do have a choice - don't watch the BBC and you don't have to pay for a TV licence.

Then you can be in league with all those definitely totally all there types on Twitter...

But if you watch any other live tv you still have to buy a tv licence (to fund the BBC). Nevertheless I am intending to cancel my standing order for the licence fee.

You could apply that to council tax, water rates, energy bills (paying a daily charge when your not even using it FCOL).

The BBC offers tremendous value for money overall.

Do you pay council tax, which funds schools and social services?; if you have no children nor elderly or disabled relatives who need such services, it's the same principle.

So exactly the same as the aforementioned highest earners at the council, water companies, energy companies etc v. then.
