    Points to stay up

    Posted by M on 6/12/2023, 9:26:01

I wonder how many points will enough to stay I reckon between 20 to 25 points could be enough.

For all the noise about Ďworst relegation battle everí it will be the same as previous years. Sheff Utd probably will be cut adrift but otherwise will be mid to high 30s, maybe a little less if Everton get another points deduction.

Purely on the maths it will be much more than that. Everton will be well clear of the bottom 3 so let's say we will need to catch Bournemouth. They currently have 13 points from 14 games, that equates to 35 points from 38 games.

I was really thinking we had the point last night,so cruel in the end.

22pts from our remaining games Iíd reckon 31 ish should do it

All depends on Everton. If they have had their run of good form ahead of the points deduction, then realistically, they will not get more than 41/42 points gross, so 31/32 to stay up.

However if they maintain the form they had, they'll get high 40s points gross. So you probably then have to look to Fulham/Bournemouth, who as someone else says on this thread are likely to be mid-30s.

I think, unfortunately, the 1/3 points we didn't get against Burnley, plus the 3 we lost last minute against Arsenal and Liverpool, will really hurt us. (Of course, we did keep 2 against Palace with luck in the last minute, and equalised last minute against Forest, so it's all swings and roundabouts!!)

Not sure that'll be enough. I reckon we need 27 or 28 points from here on in. 23 games to get them. 9 wins or 8 and a bunch of draws. Sounds a big ask but we are getting better and we deserve to have a much better home record. Our points tally does not do us justice but it is what it is. We really need a good run from the Bournemouth to Brighton games now (hopefully a bonus on Sunday) cos Feb and late March/April look very difficult

As an occasional poster, I will reiterate what I said at the start of the season. This year is a poor premier league. 31 or 32 Points may well be enough (WBA on 34 is a record to stay up)
To the bedwetters, Luton will stay up, worst performance of the year v Brentford, followed up by a positive reaction and arguably the best v the Gooners
