    Players Becoming Fans

    Posted by Todd1433 on 27/11/2023, 22:25:33

Glen Rea was sitting in the KR end a few rows back from me at the Liverpool game, and Danny Hylton was there on Saturday, near where the SKF clock was. Two players who definitely bought into the club and continue to do so- DH has come in for some stick from NTFC fans at times for social media posts about us, rarely mentioning them!

For those who have been around longer than me, has there been many others that spring to mind that have attended as fans after leaving? I don’t mean rocking up for the hospitality, but actually being there for the game..

Our former Goalkeeper, John Burley, became a fan after his career with us ended. From his Hall of Fame entry -

The club committee would deal with John one last time on the 28th March 1894.

“Mr Thompson then reported Mr J Burley for insulting the opponents goal keeper and using obscene language during the match on Tuesday March 27th.

The matter was discussed after which it was proposed by Mr Hinson, seconded by Mr Austin and carried unanimously that Mr Burley be not allowed on the ground during the remainder of the season , the Secretary to notify the Charity Committee of the same.”

Wayne Turner was, I believe, a ST holder in between his various stints of being employed by the club.

Shane Blackett is a ST holder I believe, and bring his little boy to games. Sits near me in the main stand.

Also, Ian Feuer is still a big hatter, and Coyne seems a big fan, too.

Nico came and sat next to my lad at an away game, lovely bloke who was happy to chat with all those around him, think he may have still been at the club at the time during one of his spells out injured tho rather than a returning player but he certainly spoke with the enthusiasm of a fan that’s for sure.
