    He's been convicted now

Posted by The Outsider on 26/11/2023, 23:34:46

A man who worked for decades as a programme seller at Watford’s stadium Vicarage Road has been convicted of two child sex offences.

David Roxborough pleaded guilty at St Albans magistrates’ court on Thursday to attempting to meet a girl under 16 years of age following grooming, and attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.

He will be sentenced at crown court on December 15 after the magistrate outlined that his offences were “so serious” they warranted “greater punishment than we can give.” A magistrates’ court can only give a prison sentence of up to six months (or 12 months in total for more than one offence).

Roxborough was arrested on April 14 after arranging to meet a 13-year-old child with the intention of sharing a bed. He was reprimanded by an interceptor group targeting suspected paedophiles who had created the girl’s profile online.

He appeared at the hearing on Thursday wearing a black and white hoodie, grey trousers and white trainers and spoke to outline his name and his guilty pleas.

He will remain on bail until his sentencing, which includes various conditions including not coming into contact with minors or undertaking any paid or voluntary work where he may come into contact with children.

Watford suspended Roxborough after his arrest in April and he has not worked at Vicarage Road since.

The club say they have not received any complaints related to his employment at the club. They have confirmed he was a casual employee for a number of years and had also worked at the club via an outside company.

They highlighted that they have complied with all government safeguarding legislation in relation to his role, and that a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check was not mandatory.

The trouble with that is, they go on remand. Which is a more pleasant style of restriction. Yet it comes off any sentence.

I thought remand took place in normal prisons?

I think you are right. But It must be in a less restricted wing.
I was a witness years ago at Old Bailey. One of the police told us (having sat around for couple of hours) we could go, as one of the people involved had got stomach pains and gone to hospital.
He then told us that it was doubtful because people pull this all the time. Reason being, every delay means they stay on remand.
Must cost the legal sytem a fortune.
