LAURIE SHEFFIELD
Posted by Ken Ilworth on 27/9/2023, 12:10:31
Who remembers him?
He was an aggressive forward and a goalscorer. We had so many to choose from back then. These days our forwards seem to be unfamiliar with what they are supposed to be on the pitch for. One goal (plus 2 penalties) in NINE HOURS on the park is nothing other than embarrassing, and now we cannot score against a team in the 3rd tier. DON'T tell me we're still learning. At this rate, we'll be back in the 3rd tier before long.

Yeah I'm sure Laurie Sheffield would be smashing them in against Chelsea. Have you had a lobotomy?

Laurie Sheffield was a journeyman who never played above the 3rd Div, no disrespect to him but you're not comparing apples with apples

Id be more worried if we werent creating, but even with our limited possesion we have made chances in all the games. And certainly enough to have won at Fulham and beat Wolves.

I know you are clearly trolling but this is ridiculous. Have you actually seen a game this season (and don’t worry I know the answer). I have been shocked by the speed of both the players and the ball, despite having watched the Prem on TV. We’ve had higher xg for 3 games now, the goals will start going in soon.
Exactly what I’ve said all along how much faster the game is and the pure strength size and athleticism of the players. Was always going to take time to adjust to that.

You dopey twat.
Maybe we should have spent the £100 million that Burnley have? Then we could have had ONE MORE GOAL to OUR NAME (but a worse GD).
The only thing that's embarassing has been the reaction from bellends like you

Curious as to why you'll include the exeter game in your 9 hour calculation but not the gillingham one.
is it because you're a tedious #### on a mega-flounce?
grow up.

Why isn't he being SELECTED now? And why is JOE Payne not getting A game?
It's nothing OTHER than embarrassing, and I won't TELL you that.
He was nothing special. Good chant for his name though.
Scored none the next season, when we got promoted. Mind you, he was replaced by Macdonald!

"nothing other than embarrassing"
Seriously? In the league that we are in? We had a bottom few budget in the Championship, we've paid a fraction of what many teams in this division pay for a single player in our entire history of buying players.
The gulf we are trying to bridge is like no other in my lifetime. We were very soundly beaten in our first two games but since then we've been pretty unlucky not to get more points / goals.
Can't we, just for once, take a slightly more mature approach to adversity when we meet it? If our recent history has shown us anything then surely it's that we should do that.

I suspect that you are trying to set up some sort of edgy 'routine' (more than a bit sad at your age may I suggest?) and of course I remember Laurie Sheffield. A one season wonder. We were very reliant then on Bruce Rioch and Brian Lewis for goals weren't we. With a few from Keith Allen.
The world, and our status, has changed. More pertinent from that era (ish) is our 74/75 season at the top level. No one scored more than 7 goals.
Our forwards are up against world-class defenders, we're competing in a league where we are massively outgunned financially and in playing terms and for you to use the word 'embarrassing' is, frankly, embarrassing itself, and cringeworthy in my opinion.
If you don't appreciate the quality of Morris, you've not learnt much in 50-60 years of watching Luton mate!
(Are you the original Ken Ilworth poster? More like Harry Worth!)

"Our forwards are up against world-class defenders"
'One goal (plus 2 penalties) in NINE HOURS on the park' was clearly referring to league games. You may have noticed that last night was not a league game.

We've only played 7.5 hours of league football. The exeter game gets included in his sums but the gillingham one is missed out...
Huh? You said that we scored 3 goals in 9 hours on the field. We scored 3 in the cup against Gillingham (this season). The only point it proves is that you're a f*cking pleb who can't get his facts right.
More importantly, the pitches are so much better today. Consequently there are more opportunities for skilful players. It also creates the faster game and therefore the need to organise defence.
