Fine margins. Had Browns header gone in at Fulham and Morris’s against Wolves…we would probably be on 6 points and flying. As it stands we didn’t have the belief to beat Exeter - huge game against Everton…not must win but must not lose. Burnley is a must win…. I say must on the basis of us looking to stay in the league…but we need to remember that staying up is not critical for us. We got the Prem money and secured our future….
Indeed, I was generalising, but as we can see with the teams anchored in the Championship, parachute payments guarantee nothing, except, and very importantly in our case, a new stadium. The defeat in itself is neither here nor there ( although I hate us losing anything), but the immediate effect on our morale is of concern. In his post- match interview RE looked and sounded like a very worried man.
