    Busway

Talking about the busway on Look East ten years anniversary of opening. Started with bad reviews at the beginning but now carries 2 million people a year. Excellent form of transport.

i was a critic when it opened, but my opinion has changed a bit as i use it for every game, i still do not understand the guided bit, Why? the only thing that changes on the guided bit is the driver does not have to steer the bus, as soon as the bus leaves the guided bit the driver then has to take control of the steering wheel.

Are you suggesting just having a normal Road?
One thing I learned today was that the bus can travel at 50mph instead of just 30 mph while using the guided part.
BBC Look East 6.30 tonight will show the feature.

well it does use the normal road in places, the guide bit could have been a separate section like a bus lane, what happens when a bus breaks down in the guided bit? it shuts down the busway as buses are not able to pass.

A lot of people on here were against it for various reasons. It's been a success in the round.

At the time I thought it was a waste of money and they would have been bettered served to have opened up the railway again.....however i use it pretty much every game, though it can be a pain in the arris post match, pre match leaving the pub and trundling up to clifton road at 2:55 is pretty bloody perfect.

If people didn't cross the busway without looking, they wouldn't be killed.

And how many people have been killed on "normal" roads?

As said above, I was a bit dubious when it first opened, but now use it all the time.

David Franks is an inherently miserable old grump, isn't he?

He says in that link: "It was supposed to go to the airport and doesn't go anywhere near it"

I've not lived in Luton since well before the busway was opened and even I know the busway has services using it which go directly to the airport.

He's got the arse because no-one ever praised him for putting the cycle lanes in back in his time as council leader.

Probably because no ####er uses them and they cause extra traffic at the Chaul End roundabout.

He's being pedantic as the "guided" busway only goes to Kimpton Road and then goes the rest of the way as a conventional bus.
The airport bus has provision for passengers luggage to and from the airport.

                      Absolutely.

The thing is, no one ever suggested the actual bus link would go to the airport, did they? He's just being a miserable old bastard. He knows damn well the suggestion was always services which use the busway would go to the airport.

Franks says it doesn't go anywhere near the airport? Bus route A stops right outside the airport departure building. Unless it's changed?
