I’ve taught at the 5th one. They closed the department due to a lack of money..

Oxford is very complex, some of the colleges are near broke while others are very rich. Of course, there are a few that do pretty well out of it all . . .

What happens to the profits? Is it reinvested in things like buildings maintenance , and research?

Even by your moronic standards that is particularly stupid frothy.

Universities/college administrations are largely focused on business these days, with, as TPDC says, highly paid executives. Staff are often treated badly and only awarded short term contracts.

Your 'hamas' nonsense may have made some sort of sense if aimed at Student Unions, but as usual you've got it wrong.

Unless your 'idiot' persona is a routine of course, in which case it is very successful

Yes, some of the teaching staff do very badly while some of the dean's salaries are . . . generous shall we say.

And often, even with millions being made, basic things like building maintenance etc is neglected.

Yep, it's quite unsavoury in many ways. Nancy Rothwell of Manchester University is not exactly popular with some friends who work there!!

                          I can imagine!

At one of the Oxford colleges they have discovered a load of that dodgy concrete so are generously now offering their students the option of a reduction in rent if they share their rooms with one sleeping on an air mattress. Unbelievable that at an elite University they have got caught out like that. I can understand schools where basically everything has been lumped onto the senior teachers but . . .

                    Don't be ridiculous.
It's paid to the "executives" etc . in bonuses instead of it filtering down to the lecturers, researchers, admin staff etc. who actually make the thing happen.
