Still can’t quite believe how they’re adamant that’s not handball.
I’m trying to remain objective but it’s stonewall penalty in my eyes.
Also, their goal, is our GK at fault? If he just stands there and doesn’t crouch down he saves it. Maybe I’m being harsh

I agree with you on the keeper and their goal,Should have saved it.

If you think the goalkeeper was at fault you need to start watching another sport.

The fashion in punditry is to pretend the hand ball rule is incredibly complicated, "where are you supposed to put your arms" etc.
In my book, and the law book, if the attacking team is impeded because the ball hits a defender's arm, then it's a foul. Regardless of "intention".

Simple - MOTD don't know the Laws of the Game. Ref and the VAR ref do, as Sandgrounder and others had said.
Stray pass, Nakamba blocked by the ref, Locks is poor as should have been row Z - Neto blasts it from 8 yards out so I've no problem with the keeper.

The handball law and the offside law is now a minefield with all the different scenarios. To the letter of the law that wasn't handball, he is too close to be able to do anything about it as it ricochets off his thigh. It wasn't deliberate. The hand being in what might be called an unnatural position will always be questionable, who decides what is a natural position when attempting to block a cross, every player is different, its ridiculous to defend with hands behind your back. Did he make his body bigger, yes he did, but did he do that deliberately?

That’s not the current rules though. Advice was clarified the other year by Riley, head of PGMOL. Under their guidance, it’s a penalty as hands were above the shoulder

It's been updated again before this season, the more they tinker with it the more confusing it becomes. Be simpler to just go back to in the refs view was it deliberate or accidental.

It’s handball.
Distance - irrelevant Ricochet - irrelevant Deliberate - irrelevant as hand was way above his head (unnatural position)

Neto skinned Lockyer.

If he stands tall the Neto just rolls it in , he crouched to make the target smaller and it was a decent finish.

At the end of the day, despite what their manager said in his comedy interview it would have been a travesty if they had won that. Just them getting a point seems a bit fortunate to me.
I'd not have been too inclined to argue if that had been given against us, we've had harsher given against us recently. Whereas the WHU one . . . that's a penalty, stonewall, in any year I've been watching football, regardless of guidance.

It's never a penalty in any sane sport. The bloke has done everything correct. He's blocked the cross with his foot. He fly's up and stokes his arm in a split second and there is zero he could do about it.
The whole hand all thing has become a complete farce.
Re: Handball

The guidance was if hands above shoulders then it’s likely to be given, accidental or not.
Agree that might not be sane but that was the advice when Riley was in charge.

It's absolutely OK to accept we were fortunate to get that one, it was ball to hand and not deliberate. Not a penalty as almost everyone in football seems to be suggesting.

Hand above your head and the ball smacks it in the box diverting it away from goal and out for a corner? That’s stonewall.
If his hands were down next to his side that’s different

... it's all a mess. We have 'laws' and then they go on about interpretations the latter of which you can't find any record of.
However, IFAB laws - which I imagine we follow - had this 'deflection' content in the 20/21 version but specifically omitted from all later years' versions. So are all the pundits applying the wrong standard.
Yes - I have spent the last half-hour comparing them! Time to take dog for walk.
Whatever's right - all shows that on the whole VAR is ineffective as if yesterday's should have been overturned then surely we should have got the West Ham one... so what's the point?

Good research on the deflection - don't apologise. If you want to do some research for Hatters' Heritage just let me know
But yeah, an even bigger mess when you look at the two pens given at Brighton in our first game.

And as someone pointed out last night, Taylor’s goal in the playoff final was disallowed for exact same thing, and all the pundits said that was correct so pen for me

Does ball to hand as we know it still exist
Re: Handball
Posted by R27 on 24/9/2023, 9:07:16, in reply to "Re: Handball"
That depends on who is in control of VAR. The whole thing is, as mentioned above, a mess and should be consigned to the waste bin.
Re: Handball
Posted by Snapper on 24/9/2023, 9:04:55, in reply to "Re: Handball"
Not sure, but if you go by reactions. We in the kenny all shouted for a pen instantly, and the wolves player didn’t argue and excepted it. It was his team mates the remonstrated. It didn’t feel like the ref made a terrible decision at the time as the blokes hand was waving over his head

I would take them all season, keep banging in those crosses or corners ,mayhem in the box leads to goals
