if any article sums up the modern world then that's the one.
Man is rapidly losing his ability to think for himself.
And then promptly blame someone else.

Your sat nav tells you the route to use and there are no warning signs or barriers preventing you from taking that route? How is this the fault of “not thinking for yourself” and what would you have done differently in that situation?

what you would drive off the edge of a collapsed bridge, just because Google maps told you to?

And I don’t think anyone is suggesting google maps told him to drive off a collapsed bridge.

They are suing the wrong people. Whoever is responsible for the bridge should have warning signs up and erected a barrier. It's not sensible to rely on random people "telling" google the bridge is out - all sorts of mischied could be done if that approach was adopted

The lawsuit also names some private property management companies that are responsible for the land. But I guess that isn’t as clickbaity a headline for the story.

Wait, wanting those responsible for not putting barriers and signs up on a collapsed bridge to be held to account and thinking a Sat Nav should know about a bridge being collapsed for 5 years is “woke” now?

Anything that can be put under the heading 'not being a total c>unt' is 'woke' as far as that cretin's concerned.

Re: Google maps
Posted by HH on 21/9/2023, 14:37:52, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
Is it google's responsibility that he could see it was collapsed?
Surely the driver has some blame in all of this. As RADSB says, the real negligence lies mainly with the state. My Satnav always tries to get me to drive down one way streets the wrong way. I don't do it because of the signs.
Re: Google maps
Posted by ADHDHAT on 21/9/2023, 15:12:00, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
Where did I say that? There’s a gaping chasm (pun intended) to suggesting it might not have been his fault and he wasn’t being stupid to saying it’s entirely Google’s responsibility.
Re: Google maps
Posted by Woodston hat on 21/9/2023, 19:15:56, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
If he didnt see it until it was too late, he was possibly speeding, its his fault, plus whoever maintains the road.
Re: Google maps
Posted by HH on 21/9/2023, 15:58:56, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
I just don't see google having any legal responsibility whatsoever to deduce whether the roads it's suggesting you drive on are in proper condition to be driven on. It's absolutely nothing to do with them.
The fault is between the state and the driver.
Re: Google maps
Posted by ADHDHAT on 21/9/2023, 16:10:28, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
Fine. I disagree with that. But I was really questioning your reasoning that he was “more than a bit stupid”. Don’t think that necessarily fair and certainly reductive given the circumstances.
Re: Google maps
Posted by HH on 21/9/2023, 16:53:37, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
I respect that but equally I stand by it. Unless there is load more context to come out, on first impressions, to drive over a collapsed bridge means you're certainly not driving with the care and attention.
I can't imagine many circumstances, unless it's particularly lashing down with rain, thick fog etc, where I would proceed over a bridge without realising it's collapsed. Even at night, he would have headlights on.
Anyway, agree to disagree
Re: Google maps
Posted by ADHDHAT on 21/9/2023, 17:44:00, in reply to "Re: Google maps "
It was a dark night with heavy rainy. Unfamiliar road, no warning signs and his sat nav didn’t suggest the road was impassible. Tragic accident but not because he was “stupid”. Check the image of the bridge in the article. I can see how it could happen.

I haven't a clue but I assume they didn't find a big pile of cars or I suspect that would have been included in the article.

Re: Google maps

It’s logical to think that every previous incident has lead to a car going off the bridge entirely and then being left there so they pile up? No. It’s a bit silly.

I remember about 15 years ago Google Maps used to tell people to jet ski between Japan and China.
Not sure they're entirely responsible because someone attempted to drive over a collapsed bridge.
