Or in other words another class act that we need the medical team to look after.
And if we do we have a £10 million player minimum.
How do you arrive at 10 million when he has only played 18 Championship games in 2 seasons? According to wiki.

Excellent signing, seen him play for Derby and he was outstanding even in a struggling team.
He is a monster tackler and has a wonderful range of passing.

Frankly underwhelmed. The guys never player any games. Find it hard to believe he is the best we can get for the Premier League. It's the lack of experience at any level that concerns me.

For someone to have been at United since the age of 6 must mean he has some pedigree …..FFS……

Were you underwhelmed when you first saw Curtis Davis's name on the teamsheet? James Justin's too?

While I agree with your point... Justin and Davies were both home grown and youth team players breaking through is never underwhelming. Both were also obviously quality and made a lot of appearances before they were 21:
Davies was 18 when he made his debut and made 97 appearances in his first 3 seasons, being a starter from 19 onwards, including in the Prem.
Justin was either just 18 or 17 when he made his debut and made over 100 appearances in his first 4 seasons.
Mengi is 21 and has made 30 appearances. He is still young but by 21 Davies and Justin were well established. I'm sure Mengi will be a good signing but imo it's a gamble at this stage

Couldn’t agree more, is he going to be any better than what we’ve got? No, so why sign him? even if were still in the championship he would be a very underwhelming addition. No point in just getting in bodies, we are in the premiership, at least try and give it a go.

Will be one of the quickest defenders and probably quickest cb in the league. Which is much needed with locks and andersen. Hes 21 amd doesnt count towards our squad numbers. Great signing lots of potential

Any idea what the lottery numbers are for Saturday? Seeing as you know he isn't any better than what we have already got.
If he fulfills his promise then he could be worth a fortune to us going forward.
When will people get it into their heads we aren't in a position to spunk 10+ mil on mercenary players that will down tools in the event we get relegated in order to manufacture a move.

Edwards’ comments explain that he is not under pressure to be the main man yet and that he is here to compete. Clearly has good pedigree and if they can overcome his prior hamstring challenges, like they did with Doughty, he sounds like a useful young compliment to the squad
Re: Menghi signs
Posted by Kirkby Hatter on 31/8/2023, 21:51:02, in reply to "Re: Menghi signs "
We need to be bringing in players that are ready now if we want to compete in this league, otherwise just come out and say that the signings are in preparation for next season in the championship. Yes I know that financially we cannot compete but just disappointed with the defensive signings as this is where we look the weakest.

If we could afford them . . . we probably would.
Re: Menghi signs
Posted by Music Critic on 31/8/2023, 22:00:15, in reply to "Re: Menghi signs "
You might be proved right but there is no way we can even tell if the defensive (or any other) signings have been a success or not until, at least, 10-12 games in. Nor can we really afford 'ready' Prem players (unless we are able to find value abroad)
Our M.O. has always been get players in with potential and improve and develop them. Some will sink and some will swim
It's worked so far, hasn't it?

It wasn't a criticism, I think we are spending wisely. We won't have to sell if we are relegated.

But one experienced CB could make a huge difference, even a loan would work.
It would be odd to not use the loan option.
That doesn’t break the model.

Who is this mythical loan centre back with a wealth if prem experience who's willing to come to us then?
Re: Menghi signs
Posted by Royston Crow on 31/8/2023, 23:04:19, in reply to "Re: Menghi signs "
Holding still hasn’t decided so it may be him? He may wish to stay in this country if he is settled in Hertfordshire.
If he says no I’d look at the lad from Viking who Leeds and Coventry are also after.
Full Slovenian international and a good age.
Never said it was easy but if Ohso and Potts are really until 2024 then can we take a risk?
Just one more CB now and I’d be very happy with the squad.

i am quite impressed with the dealings, bringing in older players with experience and younger players with potential. but if we are unable to survive this year we will have moved the club forward and be in a better position to return.

Clearly talented. Lets hope hes a hit and development is swift. At his age hes been unlucky with injuried could be shrewd business. Just wish we could sign that 25 million centre back
