We go to Cley every year. Wonderful area. If you ever go try The Dunn Cow pub & restaurant in the next village, try the salt beef. They are fed on the salt marshes.

The military museum is the Muckleburgh Collection.

Mrs W12's Royal Engineers grandfather was killed on the local beach at Weybourne in 1944, defusing landmines laid in the early days of the war to protect our coast from invasion.

A couple of years ago she phoned the collection's number and, despite them being closed for the winter, the owner's daughter picked up. She recounted her story and a short while later received a call-back from the owner, Michael Savory, who invited us on a personal guided tour of the collection, even though it was closed, and rcounted his knowledge of the area during WWII. Not only that, he drove us out to a local cafe and bought us lunch! A top man (and ex-Lord Mayor of London).

From Weybourne you can drive east along the coast to Mundesley and visit the memorial to the 26 Royal Engineers who suffered the same fate as Mrs W12's grandfather. We'll be there at midday on Remembrance Sunday for the service at the memorial.
