    Generally speaking ,Luton have picked up their greatest players from relative obscurity or in-house. Two successful exceptions were John Aston and Jimmy Husband who were already established top division players.What others would you say after that time were ‘Ready made’ successful purchases?

            No recollection of him playing for us but you’re correct as usual. Had a Chelsea supporter mate who was having a pint on the Kings Road just before a game when Micky popped in for a quick couple. Played centre half an hour later.

              Played in the game at Sheffield Wednesday where Andy Blair* scored a hat trick of penalties. The referee (Tom Fitzharris - still remember his name all these years later) managed a case of mistaken identity when booking a Luton player. Shouldn't really be too difficult to tell the difference between Micky Droy and Brian Stein!

              * that family haunts us - his son scored the offside goal for York.

                      Lansbury wasn't a big name in the PL?
                      McManamanamanamanamanamanaman hadn't played for a few tops sides or been an FA Cup winner with a MotM performance?
                      Elstrup wasn't an international?
                      Wilson - not 100% sure so perhaps give you that one although he was an established player.
                      Morris - our record signing - already established in the Championship as a goal scorer in a poor Barnsley side?

                        McManamans best days were well behind him when he signed for us. Same could be said for Lansbury. Although Lansbury did add a lot to the squad.

                          McManamanamanaman's best days were definitely behind him but he had been in the PL and we had just been promoted to the Championship so the step down for him possibly fits.

                          And I still love watching the Swansea clip with lansbury absolutely taking that guy who thought he was being clever by kicking the ball away!

                        OK. I misread the original question as being established topflight players only.

                        My mistake - clearly we have signed loads of players with solid experience acquired at other clubs but who weren't in way well known names beforehand.

                        But actually but I think the question which players have we signed in the past who were reasonably well known is actually much more intriguing.

                    Garry Parker was a youth team player who came through the ranks at Luton. he then went on elsewhere as a 'ready made' fit.

                      Fair enough. I know he became a bit of a journeyman but couldn't remember exactly where he started or when he played for us in his playing career.

                          The OP was specifically referring to players with an established top flight pedigree, which Aston and Husband certainly had.

                            Depends how you interpret his post. You are emphasising top division which is part of what he says. To me the emphasis is on ready-made successful purchases which, given our relatively few years in the top division opens the discussion up far more widely. We've not even been in the to division in the last 30 odd years so there's hardly likely to be a huge amount fitting that criteria.

                            One thing the OP does highlight though is that, whilst I can think of quite a lot of ready made successful purchases our ethos has very much been either bringing them up through the yoof or signing lower league players and making them good. I wonder how much Adebayo is worth now especailly after such a slow start to this season he was absolutely terrific in the play-off games.
