    Did the Romans ,Vikings and Normans avoid Bedfordshire for a reason.

                Falkes de Breaute built one next to St Mary's Church. They found the drawbridge when they built the Uni Library. Lea Road has the curve of the moat. Another was built on the site of Matalan but only last 20 years or so. Both were wood. There's another one near Hexton again wood on a mound. Pirton too.

                      no, the A5 (watling street) goes through Dunstable, starts Sandwich,Kent (Richborough castle) and ends somewhere near Shrewsbury. Built by the Romans.

                        The route predates the Romans by several centuries.

                                    I knew exactly where it starts and ends- i visit many many castles when on my travels. The A6 runs through Cumbria yes the same A6 we have in Beds
