    All these "potential signings"

Posted by The Outsider on 2/6/2023, 22:41:46

They don't just have to be good players, they need to "get" Luton. It takes a certain type of player to fit in and, if we bring in a few that aren't that type, we could lose what we have got.

I am sure the club are aware of that, I would doubt they do their scouting on here.

I know. It was just a comment about the suggestions being made.

          So much to the point.

And all this groundshare nonsense, which still gets airtime despite the club making it crystal clear that this has never been remotely under consideration.

KR is a massive factor in surviving in the PL, and for that to work, a big part of getting Luton means getting KR.

… and also they need to fit into a longer term plan. Yes, recruit a few players for next season, but continue to improve the squad for the next 3-4, not just the first team. Strengthen, but provide Watson, Johnson and Davis et al a Luton-path to develop.

              Davis?

Yes, Joe (Davis) Taylor. I’ve had problems with his name since day 1!

I think he means Joe Davis. You must know him, the veteran snooker player who thought he’d won us the game, but had the “goal” disallowed for handball.

But we have managed to add players every year and it’s grown organically as a result.

This time last year Morris wasn’t even mentioned and look what he has done and what a fantastic character he is.

But the recruitment team would have done their homework on his character. What I am trying to say is that some of the names being suggested both here and elsewhere might be good players but not fit the "template" that we are looking for.

Would get good value shopping abroad.

A 2m player abroad would probably cost 10m if they were English.

David Pleat suggested that the absence of a language barrier at Luton Town was a significant factor in the team unity.

I assume the big hurdle is that we will be very robust on wages both now, and in the possible/probable event of relegation.

A huge chunk of the PL money will go on the Lenny refurbishment, the new ground, the academy etc.

Therefore we will need to be a bit thrifty with wages. In the modern day woild people rather play in the Championship for Sheff Wed on £25k for three years or the PL with Luton for £20k which might then drop to £8k with a very realistic relegation.

If we are getting £170mn in the Premier League would should be able to match and better most wages in the Championship for this season at least plus players want to be in the Prem

                        * Kenny. Not Lenny.

                        That twot was beyond refurbishment.

Exactly. And that's why I'd rather make no signings and keep the team we've got rather than waste 10s of millions on a few players who will de-stable the dressing room.

I think that we definitely need to make a few signings but I am sure that the recruitment team will know all about the character of the players that they are looking to bring in.

Yes, we'll definitely have to make a few in order to get the numbers up after those released but I can't see them being big household names. And yes, the recruitment team will have all this under control like they always seem to. When you see the stagnation of so many clubs, even the deterioration of some, we really are unbelievably blessed with the set up at the club.

                        Bravo LTFC!
