Would we still get the sell on fee?

As I said the other day.

He isn’t good enough for the PL.

Else he would have played more for AFCB.

Decent player but we have to appreciate this is a step up and that means different types of players.

I'm not saying we should be signing Stacey, but what a load of rubbish to say he's not good enough for us because he's not playing more for Bournemouth. By the same logic we shouldn't have signed Alfie Doughty or Amari'i Bell given neither were first choice in the Championship.

And don't bother with Nakamba either. Clearly not Premier League if Villa don't want him.

The club's success is built on, among other things, seeing more value in players than other clubs and the ability to improve that player.

Do you really think we're going to go out and sign 12 first choice Premier League players? You haven't been paying attention to how we operate if you do.

Still, you thought we needed to rip up the squad and start again this season, so......

I never said anything of the sort.

My beef was with Jones and his attitude at the start of the season.

              Nothing wrong with the players.

Dion - yes mistake made by me.

However we need to bear in mind Burnley were a poor team in 21/22 and relegated.

Last season they were miles ahead of everyone, and they will strengthen.

So if that is our benchmark then we need to focus on being as close to them as possible.

Then even if we get relegated we have a decent chance to go back up in 24/25.

Well I'm not sure I'd agree that Burnley were 'miles' ahead of us. Best team in the division yes, but we only lost to them 2-1 over our two games and more than matched them at Kenilworth Road for the full ninety.

But I think your point is that Burnley got relegated the season before and were still the best team this season, therefore the bottom of the Premier League is significantly stronger than the Championship. Again, not sure on this. Burnley had a huge turn over of squad, including spending £25m and selling £57m worth of players, and had a new, seemingly transformative, manager too. I think if you ask most Burnley fans they'll say there's no comparison between the two sides and that this year's team would beat last year's.

Not saying you have, but it's easy to buy into the Talksport/Sky/fans of other teams narrative that the Premier League is miles and miles ahead of the Championship. I think there's a league within a league to be won - probably us, Forest, Bournemouth, Sheff Utd, Everton, Burnley - and I think our current squad, with a few savvy additions, would be competitive. Plus, we play a style and intensity of football that other teams will find difficult to deal with (or I least I hope so).

                  Very fair points.

The mini league will be all important but I’d like to think we could challenge other clubs too.

So if he not good enough...is Drameh...Osho...Potts..Stacey as good as any we have now..if not better..

Posted by That idiot Cuba on 31/5/2023, 13:14:29, in reply to "Re: Jack Stacey..."

                  Fair question.

I think Cody and Osho have the ability to play PL football. But remember Leeds shipped him out twice so they didn’t think he was yet ready.

Ohso is an athlete and very strong, he will adapt quickly.

Potts has not been first choice but is good cover in the Championship.

Locks, Burke and Bell at their best are PL quality from day one.

Nothing to be ashamed of being “only” Championship quality but if we want kick on again next season then we have to be rational and ensure the 25 is all at this level.

I worry that some fans are going to be surprised that we will make a lot of changes, but I think we have to to survive.

You’d have thought he might want to come back to us, rather than yo-yo Norwich, would have fitted in I’d have thought, and we can pay him decent money, seems a shame.
Mind you they say never go back, good signing for Norwich, Mick must have his reasons, so trust we must.
