Rob Page- Tom Lockyer
Posted by Cracker on 30/5/2023, 20:33:24
Is it just me, but a slightly odd statement from Rob Page re TL’s health. Almost alluding to problems, isn’t going to speculate, that’s for Luton to make a statement etc etc.
Am I reading too much into that? Not speculating at all. I guess In my naivety, I had expected it to be something along the lines of ‘he got a slight bump on the head as he went up for a corner, and as he was running he felt dizzzy and fainted’ etc. hadn’t quite considered that there may be more too it.
Avoiding conjecture, my partner is an ICU nurse and she picked up on the twitter photo of him that he had defibrillator pads on.
That means they either had to restart his heart or they expected to have to.
That's obviously very serious.
Also, didn't Fraser Frank's retire early with a heart condition?

Considering he then says near the end that he believes there will be plenty more times like that to come for Tom. Then yes youre reading too much into it, he was just being professional as its not his place to say whats happened.
It's a bit concerning about the lack of info that's been released. Fingers crossed we're just being over concerned but you normally get a bit more detail when a player is forced to go off.
Not really. If it is a cardiac issue it is likely that nothing will be confirmed for 6-8 weeks. Before anyone says bloody NHS, need more doctors etc. that is not the reason. It is likely he will be monitored for the next four weeks at least to observe his heart rate and rhythm. Additionally, it is likely he will have some form of stress testing too. Dependent upon the radiopharmaceutical used, that could be another week.
BBC Look East said tonight that he's stll in hospital. Like you, I'm guessing all sorts of tests were done and it takes a while for all the results to come back. Hospital is the best place for him in case it happens again and he doesn't land on grass.
Was it him that got the initial header in for Osho’s disallowed goal?
If so, it was a heck of a collision. Speculation I know, but he collapsed as he went towards the ball in midfield, so maybe delayed reaction concussion???
Lockyer was talking the other week about how seriously he takes being a pro, to the point of irritating people around him by not being social, as he wants to wring every drop out of his career
I would say if it was cardio related, tests would have picked that up quite rapidly. So then its a case of ruling out what else it could have been. Heat exhaustion ? (it wasn`t that hot) a neurological condition of some description. Could Have been something as simple as stress? ( I got summoned to the office next door just over a year ago as I once did a 1st aid course..very lapsed..and somoene had collapsed..abolutely #### all i could do, but was told by the 999 responder to start CPR - which i declined as a)that would have been concerning and b) she was still breathing. They decided in the end that it was probably due to stress (and the paramedics arrived within 2 minutes anyway).
But no sense taking risks with a professional athlete until you can rule everything out.
Actually you say it wasn’t hot. I was sat in block 107 i was in full sun for 2 hours. Me and everyone around us was finding it tough sitting in it after 10 minutes. We all went and bought caps. I was thinking an hour before kickoff why are we warming up in the sun and not in the shade it’s boiling 🥵 but the did for a good 35 minutes.
If it’s an intermittent arrhythmia (irregular heart rate) it won’t be picked up til it happens again (if it even does). Will probably have a long term ECG monitor to constantly monitor heart rate over days / weeks (this can be done at home).
I'm sure the club will give an update when he is released from hospital (lockyer informed Rob it was due to be yesterday) about what has happened, hopefully fingers crossed all the tests have come back normal.
I would take it if Rob page has had a conversation with lockyer himself and no doubt luton and he expects lockyer to be back by September international breaks then take it as a positive.
