The ref signalled for a free kick to Cov and booked Clarke immediately, although his signal for the free kick was in the direction of the penalty spot hence some thinking it was a penalty.
My guess is that VAR reviewed and decided there wasn't enough evidence to say the ref made a clear and obvious error so didn't overturn it. Wrong IMO as the GK clearly caught him and at least they should have given the ref the opportunity to review on the monitor.
I would also guess that if he had given the penalty they would have said there wasn't a clear and obvious error either and the decision would have stood.

As in VAR cannot intervene unless they think that the yellow card should be a red card.
That means they cant then award the pen as that will mean rescinding the yellow which they cant do.
A joke as for me it was a nailed on pen. Ref made an error by giving the yellow instantly, the clown.

I was under the impression that it was Marriner who told Oliver that it was simulation. As Oliver pointed to his earpiece. That is also what the commentator seemed to think when I watched it back. They said there was contact but not enough. Which is so much bollocks. Exactly the same BS they came out with over the Morris penalty against Middlesbrough. If anyone has ever played rugby they will know that with a tap tackle on the foot, it doesn’t take much to bring someone running down.

Yes i was wrong then, i thought it was other way around. Had he given yellow before VAR intervened, it and the pen decision itself cant be overturned.
