Prem clubs avoid tax
Posted by Madpig on 30/3/2023, 10:05:50
It's reported that clubs in the Prem have avoided tax to the tune of £250m in the last three years (BBC). HMRC states several are being investigated. Who'd have thought it , eh?
I suspect there are an awful lot of fans who support division 2 teams (Championship) and hate the idea of losing to money teams every week. Yet we ALL want to win every game for now. Burnley fans will be loving this season and dreading next.
Yeah AN, in a mercenary world, we go up , get the crap kicked out of us and return with a pile of loot for the stadium. However , how many of us really want to endure a season like that? Trouble is , if you just sit tight here and tread water, one day , one of those bad seasons turn up and down you go, e.g, Sheff W. I want us to win all our remaining games , but as you say, line Burnley fans , next season would be filled with dread
Burnley fans might be because their expectations are higher as they have had quite a few seasons in the top flight recently.
For me, it would be a free hit, no need to dread it at all. We wouldn't splash the cash, it would be invested largely in the stadium and I think we'd plan for a likely relegation.
For us, if teams with the resources most have up there can't beat us then that's embarrassing for them. We'd take a few hidings but keeping our eyes on the longer term it would be worth it.
And being us, there would be occasions when we surprise teams up there and those would be moments to savour. And well, miracles sometimes do happen . . .
That's how i see it and i would hope this would be extended to the manager as well but I have a fear it wouldn't be, especially amongst the moron fans who occupy twatter and facebook, who I am sure would be calling for a new manager after 10 games
Good point on the eventual bad season. Another problem is, when ALL the money is spent on the ground and none on the playing staff, it will go down well with some fans and badly with others. Plus of course RE or whomever is the boss may decide to leave. Difficult.
That's an eternal problem for any club. There's a good few supported in this land feel they're far better equipped to run a club than the directors that do. Even now , with nasty financial stuff lurking in dark corners, Man C are about to invest £300m improving a virtually new stadium. Maybe that'll reduce their tax liability eh? 😏
