Is this proof that privatising public services doesn't work?

Probably not. I have reduced my use of Royal Mail considerably over recent months due to unreliability because of strikes (for example, I received a Christmas card on 30 January) and massive price increases. I now do a lot more by email which is quicker, cheaper and more reliable.

              Royal Mail are useless.
They won't leave a parcel with a neighbour, but the shop that ten minutes away.
What's the point of home delivery?
They'll be gone in ten years.

Better them than the courier companies hiring people on zero hour contracts who couldn't give a toss and just leave your parcel in a random bush

The price increases could have been caused by the necessity of paying shareholders, though.

And I believe Covid restrictions caused a lot of delays, which perhaps have meant that fewer people used Royal Mail, and thus income decreased.

At one time, the post was here before 9 am so it was the first thing I dealt with on arrival. Nowadays, it is usually after 11 when it arrives and it has been about 1.30 and 2.00 yesterday and today.

Go further back and there were two deliveries a day, and you could put a letter in the postbox in the evening and it would be delivered the next morning.

Royal Mail said that they were doing away with the second delivery but, in reality, they did away with the first delivery.

Royal Mail's business model has shifted massively over the last 25 years though through the advent of the internet causing an almost ending of letters posted. Far fewer cards posted too so they've had to focus on parcels but with that they have come into fierce competition even though they should have been in advantageous position given their logistical infrastructure already in place. Frankly it seems like a monumental failure from management during this period.

Isn't that why they have been engaged in discussions with the Unions regarding working practices over the last year or so?
