    Ref on Saturday

Josh Smith to ref the game on Saturday. No doubt he will be biased to "both" teams, depending on each decision.

He shouldn't be allowed to referee our games having been a teacher in Dunstable - it seems that he goes out of his way to prove that he isn't favouring us.

The ref that booked Mcgeehan for breaking his leg was only about 40 minutes drive from Portsmouth. FL said they try and cut down on travelling. For this game though it really should be a premier league ref from a neutral place like nuneaton...

Why do we keep talking about Refs?

Posted by Cuba on 28/3/2023, 12:14:04, in reply to "Ref on Saturday"

There is an unhealthy trend now doing this in advance and creating something we need to do without.

If we are good enough we will win games without bleating about decisions.

And they keep fcuking us over. Is that enough?

We are in danger of using this as an excuse.

This is dangerous and will be counterproductive.

In recent weeks the name of Ref is discussed five days in advance of the match.

When did we start doing this?

It creates uncertainty and that can be passed as negative energy to the players we are supposed to be supporting them.

Over a season it balances itself out.

Hard to take when against you but we have also been on the right end of some other decisions.

“Over a season it balances itself out”

One of the biggest lies in football, right there.

I bet you believe in the “football family”, trickle down economics and Father Christmas as well.

So your seriously think we are being targeted because we are “little Luton” for poor decisions???

Trust me if we default to a siege mentality it won’t end well

                    Where did I say that?

But if decisions even out over a season why do the likes of Liverpool and the Manchester clubs always end up on the right side of far more decisions?

                      No seige mentality, just facts.
How many pens have we had in the league?
How many pens have we had like Sunderland got the other week?
How many pens have we had with goalbound shots saved with the diving defenders hand (Cov)?
Plus the trip on Clicker v Millwall I think. Plus other obvious non decisions like the punch by Sharp on Lockyer unpunished.

Maybe they do but if we get hung up on that it will be a slippery slope.

Lead games 4-0 and then it won’t matter if we get a bad decision occasionally.

But expecting to hold onto single goal leads every week in the most competitive league in the world is even harder.

Making the ref the scapegoat before a ball is kicked is not a great optic.

We have held on to 1-0 leads.
But when we're 1-0 up, the team are working their way perfectly within the laws to a second, and a referee or linesman decides they've seen an offside, or doesn't see an obvious foul, or an opposition player diving to the ground in fake agony, and gives a free kick to them, (all of which have happened), it does seem as if they're against us.
And it seems to happen more against us than for.

Tbf, I can’t remember any terrible decisions from those three games he’s reffed this season, which is unusually good odds from refs this season.

Penalty not given to us when we were 2-0 up at home to West Brom.

                    Penalty given to Preston.

Last season at home to QPR - didn't send off Chair after he hit Lockyer in the face just after the half time whistle.

Looked like handball to me and I thought I was biased.

Josh Smith didn't referee that game - that was Leigh Doughty.
