    Family and Kenilworth Road

My late father was a welder and got a job putting up the safety barriers in the Kenilworth Road end. My late uncle had his ashes scattered on the pitch, penalty area in front of the Oak road. We went on a 3 match unbeaten after that.

May have been B&EM, Convoy...used to be quite a few welding companies in the Town...as an aside the foreman/manager at B&EM used to sell programmes, he went onto become stadium manager and fixed Keith Keanes gutter during the game...I used to help the groundsman...only ask as I used to be a fab/welder...

I think all local companies mucked in, in those days, same as the Vaux shutdown really, doing ghosters to get the jobs done in time...

The old fella worked for a number of different companies and even started his own company, didn't go well though. Used to work in Glasgow in the ship industry in his youth before moving to Luton.
Remember him telling me he was working at KR. Was good at his trade and I'm sure the barriers did their job.

They certainly did, with a few thousand pressed up against them....we had a lot of scots and geordies/macams come down when the shipbuilding died off a bit, real characters a lot of them and still fondly remembered...started my plater apprenticeship at 15, good days, filthy job, hard graft and mum moaning about the bath going rusty the amount of steel Id wash off
