FA Sunday Cup semi final tomorrow. Quite the achievement. A certain Adam Watkins is playing for them. I thought he'd play a higher level when he first broke into our first team.

Yes a very good achievement but paying players large sums of money for playing what is essentially Sunday football doesn't sit right with me.

Brett Longdon also plays for them.

Where does the money come from? Who is paying it?

Sponsors. For some reason business owners give money to local football clubs without getting any real return.

I was watching Leighton Town yesterday and some blokes next to me we're talking about this subject, some of the figures that they were saying that the players were being paid was an eye opener for Sunday football.

It's a funny one because I used to play for my village football team. I would have loved to have that team play at a higher level. No where near even conference level but the point is ambition. Without dreaming what might be football is very limited.

Fair point if the competition is equal, high level local Saturday football has paid players for some time at many clubs.

Paying players to play Sunday football is different, in the main the level is lower and not as competitive, paying players to play at this level creates a very unfair playing advantage, hence why only two clubs in the Sunday league have a chance of winning the league, realistically only one, St Joes.
Most Sunday players pay to play not the other way round.

Years ago players on a contract at a Saturday club could not play in the Sunday League, these days that rule it seems largely ignored. The rule was there for a reason.

My brother used to play for them - he moved from St Albans city after falling out of league football and was earning a lot more play for Joe’s

                    Over three figures, some significantly.

I am not tubby, but I know my Sunday football.

That was why he pulled out of that game at Ebbsfleet and was replaced by Carden whose performance that night created the phrase "had a Carden".
