Footballers on SSP

New standard contracts are being introduced in the National League this summer. Injured players will only get paid for 12 weeks and will then go onto SSP. I can see that being challenged.

How much did we pay that herbalife fella with the sick note?
no issue if this is a minimum contract giving guaranteed terms that clubs than then give more benefits to if they choose to. there are plenty of stories of part time players being left destitute because of injuries they've picked up and clubs dumping them. Ian Hillier being a case in point after he went to newpoer.

Not sure how many clubs in the National league are pro and can afford to pay long term injured players. I imagine money is tight and to be paying players who can't play long term must cripple finances owing to getting another player in to replace said injured player.
The other thing we don't know, is what percentage of players are out for longer than 12 weeks, not many I would have thought.

Wouldn't that be down to each club though? (mind you when Spillchards were here it could have been handy!)
Not unless The Athletic are doing an early April Fools Day - also, a club can give a player three months notice if they have an injury or illness which will keep them out for more than four months. This period will be determined by "a medic appointed by the club".
Below the fifth tier, it will only be six weeks before SSP.
