From some website called "MyLondon" on Microsoft front page

A London commuter town has been named by property website ilivehere.co.uk as the worst place to live in the whole of England. Luton, Bedfordshire, is found just 22.4 miles north of the capital is 2023’s worst place to live, ahead of the north and Aylesbury.

If the reviews on ilivehere are anything to go by, then Luton leaves a lot to be desired. So bad in fact that one person said 'it makes Slough look like Monaco'

Makes me laugh
I’m Born and bred in the town by to immigrants that came here in the late 50s from overseas
Never once been out of work, had a great upbringing in the town and the pubs and clubs of the 80s and 90s were top draw
Sitting on a pension plan of excess of 2 million
There’s #### all wrong with the town if you try to get along with everyone and work hard for what you want

And as an added bonus you get to see the best football club though the eyes of a resident

It's a bit shabby and won't improve anytime soon until they control the asb, moochers, smokers, drinkers and lechers. That won't happen until Police funding is sorted and the Council has the will to do it. Until you do then you won't get decent shops and restaurants in the town centre. Too many who live here are in debt or send money home or save it so lack disposable income. You won't get people with disposable income coming into the town centre until the shops and restaurants come which relies on the asb's being sorted.

Indeed. I was having a chat with the chaps about the various shit areas of Colchester, long story short, turns out most of it.

We occasionally have cause to go into town early on a Saturday morning and that's a bit of an eye-opener. People picking up fag-butts to extract the leftover tobacco to roll-up, leftover tinnies and bottles, etc.

And there are even people who are such cunts that they've been banned from the borough.

But, yeah, somewhere else is slightly worse so I'll feel all smug about that.

Never really understood the bash Luton at every opportunity narrative.

I've visited places far worse and deprived yet rather than poor scorn on them imagine the community contained within, with a bit of financial aid many of these places thrive as is evidenced though out the last few years. Sadly the money doesn't end up in areas required so the narrative remains.

People rave about Cornwall, which is great if you live on the coast, but head inland (Redruth or Camborne for example) and you’ll see real down and out towns - even the charity shops are closing down…

Areas of Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle.

Even areas of Luton have seen investment and the standard of living etc improve.

Problem is for some areas, they're building as many houses/flats as they can possibly fit on a postage stamp sized plot without adding the other necessary infrastructure.

I couldn't give a toss of what other people think about Luton. It's cheap uneducated pointless and petty from people and businesses or should know better. Those that throw stones whilst living in crass houses are the worst offenders.
I've never bothered to poor scorn on other towns and cities. All have good and bad places. Some just like to harp on about how good they have it whilst putting the boot into other towns. What's the point of that! Does it make you feel better?
