Pretty sure we used to walk the rail line and got up somewhere between Leicester road and kingsway, to see Steam trains in sidings clearly unused

the steam trains in Laportes were strange, they were filled with high pressure steam from the boiler house.

large white tower that was Laportes. Loved her to bits but she almost burned our house down in the 60's in Crawley Green Road. We lived at n°3 just below Bennetts Newsagents. Continental Microwave sat on the ruins of our house after it was compulsory purchased to make way for the Park Street viaduct.

We use to walk from Skimpot bridge to Oak Road along the line, if i remember correctly, Blue Circle were still using the line, i remember a group of us walking along to a game on a really hot day, you couldn't see no further than a few yards with the heat haze. One of us thought they heard a train horn in the distance, we stopped and poo-hoo'd it and we carried on, until we felt the tracks rumbling under foot. Suddenly from behind the sound of a slow moving train, but only a stones throw from us, we all dived to the side of the track, One of us, dived into the stinging nettles, me and the few with brain cells dived the otherside of the tracks onto the gravel. PR (if i remember correctly) spent the whole game being avoided, his face, arms and legs had blistered so much, they had turned to a yellow puss. And i think the old blue saddle tank engine from Laportes is at Quainton railway station.

Didnt someone known to us get lifted on the trip back from the game along the line.

yes, if it was the time when a train had parked up near the Bridge and to our surprise, a few coppers jumped out and nabbed a one or two of us, well not me, i ran and somehow ended up hiding inbetween the cars at Caesars palace car park.
