Yes, used to go there to watch my old dad play cricket for the works team. He was never in for long, lousy eye ball bat co-ordination. Which I inherited. Enthusiasm is definitely not enough for playing cricket. Laportes had a lovely social set up, Christmas parties for the kids and coach trips to the seaside. Happy days.

The safety record there (at the factory) was shocking though

I used to drive retired workers to Laportes functions at its offices near Kingsway I think.

Those functions back in the day (before your time) were often presided over by Charles Hill, Lord Hill of Luton.

Sadly my old dad never got anywhere near that stage.

I worked there one summer on the weigh bridge. It was a shambles I seem to recollect.

When Elder Master Genius was very young, and Mr. Genius was working at Seagrams, we took him to a works "fun day" there.

Laportes sports day was a big deal back in the 50's, valuable prizes for the "amateur' athletes.

That particular day wasn't Laporte's Sports day; Seagrams hired the ground for the day.
