    Kitchen refit advice

Posted by Maccacracker on 3/2/2023, 7:33:28

I've had a Bulgarian builder come to quote for my kitchen refit yesterday.
Heard their quality of workmanship (Bulgarian builders in general)isn't great (after researching when they left) vibe wasn't great also from them, but if price is ok I'm wondering if it's worth taking the chance.
Does anyone know of a good, reasonably priced kitchen fitter please?

Being a Brexit voting foreigner hating thickie I’d have thought you’d want a white indigenous English bloke to rip you off and fùck it up. I’m surprised you even considered a Bulgarian.

Like most things in life, you pay for what you get. In the building trade, pay cheap, you pay twice.

Alpine kitchens did mine a few years, reliable, single man business, turned up on time everyday, really good job, did all fitting, electrics, plumbing. Not cheap but very good job. Usually get what you pay for.
Bought kitchen from Wickes separately, all went well.

So you have researched and think the work isn't great, you don't get a good vibe after meeting them, yet your questioning whether its worth taking a chance?

Upon purchasing the kitchen, Wickes said around £4000 for a dry fit for me, although I will need a wall knocked down to make open plan.

Depending on size I'd say that is about right. I bought a Howdens one last year and it cost me around that to get it fitted.

My suggestion would be to get your supplier to do it. Any issues it's all in one place and even though it might cost more it's probably worth it.

Particularly if you don't know a good fitter.

Time depends on many factors, mine was done in a week but how big room is, how many cabinets, are cabinets supplied ready built, flooring, decorating etc.
Howdens have a good reputation, but my experience with Wickes Luton was faultless but general rule of thumb is supply and fit is more expensive than finding a good fitter.
If you can rip the old one out yourself, it's saves a few quid.

Probably a fortnight to a month.
                                                    Howdens are a good company.
