    Football Governance White Paper

Posted by RADSB on 2/2/2023, 9:32:21

The Sun claims to have seen a leaked copy
    http://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/21245085/biggest-shake-up-football-ownership-in-years-leaked/

    Main changes -
A ban on clubs being able to join breakaway leagues, with teams only able to compete in competitions approved by the regulator

A annual tax paid by all teams to fund the independent regulator

Money will be taken from the Premier League and spread out more evenly in the lower leagues, to try and prevent clubs going bust

New tougher ownership rules which will replace the “fit and proper” test and scrutinise the source of wealth

All clubs will need to reapply and gain a fresh licence

Fans to be handed more power, with clubs consulting them on key decisions

The devil will be in the detail of course. There must be a high chance of lawyers and accountants finding a way around the rules before they come into force possibly for the 2023/24 season.

Do the premiership teams need to vote this thru? (turkeys voting for Christmas comes to mind)

Just to be a pedant - it will be the season after next season that it comes into force, if ever.

Our dealings with the F.A. and EFL around the minus 30 points opened our eyes to the sheer incompetence of the football authorities. The rest of the football world has slowly caught up with our viewpoint. The authorities have no credibility and most football fans have zero confidence in them - which is why this is a fan led initiative.

Tories are looking at all industries to rape for exta income.
Nothing good will come from a watchdog that only looks after itself. Look at ofwat and all the other useless watchdogs !

Well done for getting the tories into a subject that has absolutely nothing to do with them.
            You dullard.

The governing party has nothing to do with government plans? There are some really interesting revelations on here this morning .

I am sure you agree that from the limited information available it’s a positive thing though …even if it’s the evil party putting it together.
As an aside I don’t know why when things like this are being put together it can’t be across benches.

Because the Tories have fucked pretty much everything and need something to go in their favour?

                  Cheers, Jim

It sounds positive. But I hope that you would agree that when schemes have been enacted in this country and watchdogs have been set up to oversee them those watchdogs have proved generally ineffective at looking after the public interest. The result being that a lot of the good that was promised was actually never realised. Ofwat being a particularly good example.

I'm not trashing anything, like I said, it sounds positive. And you've avoided answering the question (shock, horror) which underpins why even though I do see it as a positive I am not too optimistic about it being fully effective.

And it's a pretty cloudy day near the South Coast and I'm about to improve it with a large coffee!
