Ed McJannet v Joe Taylor
Posted by Earl of Runfold on 1/2/2023, 11:12:07
Why bring in Taylor to develop for the future when we already had McJannet at the club ...was the offer for McJannet to good to turn down ?...was he McJannet not progressing quick enough ? worrying that we don`t seem to be developing and bringing through our young players like we use and give them a shot at the first team ie: Foley,Justin to name just two..
I'd guess that McJannet's move was engineered by his agent who persuaded McJannet it was a great move whilst he (the agent) got a nice big fee from Lecce.
He'll probably end up playing for a Lg2 team when he returns
We do give youth a chance but they have to be good enough. Casey Petit in the first team squad at 20 yrs old, Louie Watson looks assured at 21, Elijah was 23 when we signed him. The days of blooding 17/18 year olds is over. The sport is more demanding now.
Thing is you’ve named 2 there, one who made his debut over 20 years ago which suggests we haven’t had this great record of bringing players through that some people seem to falsely remember for a very long time, it’s not a new thing!!! As has been discussed on here regularly over the last few weeks there are so many factors involved mainly are the players actually good enough and look at how so few that have left under the banner of being poached by bigger clubs and having huge potential who have actually gone on to achieve great things!!!! Another factor is we don’t tend to have many ‘dead games’ at the end of a season as we are either fighting relegation or more commonly in a promotion race, so that run of games where you can stick a youngster or 2 in with lower stakes just haven’t existed. If we’ve got one who is good enough I’m sure he will get his chance and then we can dust off the ‘one of our own ‘ chant
I hope that, with Taylor being hinted as not being ready for the first team yet and Muskwe presumably a way off yet too, that Zack Nelson might start getting a chance here and there too. I’d also hope fans don’t expect him to immediately be at Morris levels, but that’s another debate. Still, just maybe there’s a chance of a homegrown striker emerging.
As soon as Nelson comes on for a five minute cameo at the end of a game and plays a mis-placed pass, all of LTFC social media will go into meltdown, saying he’s shite.
