    Signings didn’t come off

Posted by Colin on 1/2/2023, 7:54:56

Rob Edwards seemed positive one or two were coming in with the last hour. I imagine we didn’t get what wanted and not sure we are actually stronger after the window as noted and feel slight underwhelmed.

Upfront - Jerome experience and presence off bench will be missed and Cornicks pace gave us something different. New lad is untested at the level. Definitely weaker in this area.

Right Wing Back - Drameh seems a good replacement for Bree on first impressions. However, he is only a loan and seeing we were linked with 2 young full backs suggests we were after signing one permanently which didn’t happen.

Centre Back - two transfer windows after Naismith and Kioso left and they have still not been replaced. We have had two major injury crisis in this area once this season and once last season. Fully expect to see us struggling for numbers in the position by end of March.

Goalkeeper- replaced one sub keeper for another. No difference.

Defensive midfield - hopefully Marvelous settles in well - quite excited about this one - if he’s fit and hits form could be an excellent bit of business. Particularly the impact on Clark and Pelly allowing them to play further forward.

As a sidenote, the 2 signings for the first 11 were both loans - with a few players contracts up and other Horvath loan ending in the summer we potentially need to replace half the first team.

I suspect whoever had been signed would've left you "slight underwhelmed".

Funny how Cornick and Jerome were far from regular starters yet now they've left they were seemingly indispensable.

I don’t think that’s what he wrote . We have lost two forwards who have both been regularly on the subs bench and in Harry’s case got regular game time .
If Morris had been sent off last night and Adebayo gets a knock we had replacements ….

            Jerome hadn’t started

A league game since last season.

            (I think)

And Chelsea have now spunked over £500 million on 17 players under the new owner. Come on 2020, our fans, mostly armchair ones, demand you financially cripple us and recruit better. This 4th in the league is just not acceptable. Give me strength.

Well said - why aren't the directors and investors throwing more of their own money away to appease those loyal fans who begrudge handing over £30 every so often

And yet, how's the league table looking right now?

Your lasagne-scoffing owners might have a few euro in the bank but it's not doing you benders much good now, is it?

How were we supposed to pay for a transfer window that would satisfy you?

Down the road they have lots of players but look at their financial model.

Forza 2020 and having a proper football club to support

BTW we are 4th in the league.

                    Signed a centre back - with NJ/ Kioso/ Bree/ Cornick/ McJannet fees?

We have a number of fit centre backs

                      Burke
                      Locks
                      Bell
                      Osho
                      Potts (hopefully)

Bradley injured but is training again.

So this is six and we can only play three at any time.

Last night we looked as secure as we have at home all season.

Hopefully Bradley will be back sometime soon and stay injury free so he can have a run of games. He’s ok at this level if he can stay fit and has some one like Lockeye or Burke next to him.
