Losing Cornick and Jerome frees up significant wages on players that are not first choice. Cornick has been great, workload and pace is superb but chance conversion is poor - not a player to take us to the next level. I wonder if we may bring Mcatee in as cover for Elijah, Morris and Woodrow - Fred can also add the pace that Cornick offered. Extra wages to then be spent on an experienced LCB. My biggest concern is Burke - he is our best defender and if he is not playing there may be a deal in place subject to us getting a replacement in.
RE said that Burke needs to be eased gently back into the team. Probably not 100% match fit yet hence him warming the subs bench currently. Agree Burke is probably our best defender but he is also a crock, unfortunately. I read that he's never completed more than six successive games for us.
That does beg the question about recruitment, do you go for the better technical player but is only available to us cos he is injury prone meaning you are likely to get limited games out of him or do you go for a slightly less gifted player but can play 40 games a season? In lutons position we need to balance this and in the past I think we have done this quite well but I do wonder if we have got this slightly wrong in the last few seasons, I look at Burke, Lansbury, Fred, Freeman, Berry and I see lots of key players that also seem very injury prone which then puts a lot of pressure on the squad balance.
