I would imagine Jerome has been saying for a while that he would like to move closer to home and the club were away.
I would also imagine when the move to Bolton became a possibility the Bolton manager wanted to speak to the manager who has last managed him for any length of time, which is Jones. Perhaps he knows Jones as well.

I don’t blame him for helping Jerome get a contract with another club. His time on the pitch has been very limited so I don’t think this hurts Luton at all. Taking Bree hurts a little more but I think he’s replaceable. Clark, Campbell, Morris or Adebayo would have really damaged our chances though.
