    The lunacy of punishments

Posted by Godders on 27/1/2023, 11:14:39

So, an NHS trust has been fined £800,000 for not doing its job properly. So, with an already over squeezed budget, let's make the likelihood of more failings even greater by removing funding in the form of a fine!?!!!

It's just so ridiculous. Surely they need greater funding not less (as well as probably a more efficient management and care delivery process).

        A fine does seem ridiculous

I haven’t seen this story so am coming in blind regarding finer details but my question would be are the ‘managers’ and executives etc not being fined or sacked?? I vaguely understand why huge salaries might be needed to get the right people into positions of extreme responsibility at the top of organisations like hospital trusts but surely if you are taking the huge salary you must take the responsibility when it all goes tits up!!!

You do realise they have insurance cover for such eventualities?

And how much are those insurance premiums?

And wouldn't they be better spent on patient care?

Yes, it does beg the question why they don't have the confidence to say, "we don't need insurance".

Because they are underfunded, over-stretched and losing staff at an alarming rate while those that remain have very low morale levels would be my guess.

None of that is conducive to being able to provide quality healthcare no matter how hard you try.

Fair comment. The only real answer is to cut the population.

A parallel crisis is hitting education and simply not being properly reported in the press. Thousands upon thousands leaving the profession each year and that number is rising, a third of those who qualified in the last 10 years have quit, a quarter leave within 3 years of qualifying and more worryingly numbers of people training to become teachers are at an all time low (in relation to vacancies). It’s not being reported properly but within 2 years schools will have to regularly close to individual classes or year groups due to limited staffing and remote learning will be used for maybe up to 40% of education, In true Orwellian style it’s one of those things that will look impossible but become the norm within months. My wife leaves teaching at Easter having been commuted the profession for 20 years but she wants a work / family life balance, can’t wait for the day to come!!

One could surmise that it's a cunning plan to run down state funding to allow privatisation of everything possible.
