Cornick needs to stay put

Harry has been a fantastic servant to this club, has improved as steadily and impressively as the club itself and I for one would hold not a single grudge against him if he decides to go for a big pay day at brizzle. However….. He is the sort of player who is by no means guaranteed regular starts as he does have the odd shocker along side the games where he seems unplayable for spells, we know him and know how hard he tries, he won’t get as much grace from a new set of fans and he is even more so than some clearly a confidence player, he could quickly lose confidence and then have the fans on his back which would be a shame, the grass isn’t least greener and maybe a quick call to Collins (who can take then call whilst sitting on the bench at league one derby county) may help!
Equally, to those Luton fans saying now is the time to get rid, that he is a squad player at best and that won’t change think about both Dan Potts and to a lesser extent pelly, you still get the morons doing the ‘I’ll drive them to a new club myself’ routine but fact is both have been outstanding this season and both are regular starters who most would’ve sent packing in the summer. The likes of cornick pelly and Potts are the foundations of the squad that have sealed our rise to this level, sure ultimately they will go and ultimately if we want to be a prem side or dead cert top 2 championship side they will need upgrading but for now the ship needs to remain steady, the amazing team spirit built around sonny Pearson berry pelly hylton Lee Potts cornick is quite rightly being slowly and steadily developed but with it reasonably expected that sonny and berry will move on in the summer let’s keep some of that core as the likes of Lockyer clark and adebayo morph into the ‘one of us’ mould.
Maybe at 27 a three year contract on 2-3 times the money is attractive. ( I don’t know the numbers btw ). Personally hope he stays as offers us something different with his pace….bit like Scotty Oakes. Interesting that he has just had his best game of the season …often happens of a player knows he is being watched..maybe I am just a cynic…😂😂
Would totally agree he was outstanding last match but opposition and the fact that he was playing with undoubtably his best match up as a striking partner may have helped! Couldn’t disagree that a player will probably try that little bit harder if they know they are being watched but in the modern game with the levels of scouting and analysis data / evidence available I’m very confident clubs don’t recruit on a one or 2 game basis!! (During a few of our non league seasons it did rather appear that if a player performed well against us we tried to and often did sign him within a fortnight!!! Not a plan that seemed to be overly successful!)
I am sure you are right….it was said tongue in cheek. It does still happen though where a players agent notify clubs that someone wants to move and they hadn’t necessarily been on the club’s radar. Then only a short time to observe live in the transfer window. I have sat in my car listening to my agent mate telling Managers about how fantastic a player is ….
Harry gives us something different and I’d like us to keep him until seasons end rather than lose him for a nominal fee - even if that means he leaves in the summer for nothing. He still has a big role to play.
However, I’m not sure I’ve ever bought into Nathan’s plan of rotating 4/5 attackers and saving players for the last 30 mins as game changers. Harry has been a victim of this and I think it means he’s lost a bit of sharpness, confidence and momentum.
Maybe old boys like Jerome can thrive in this role but not players who are hitting the peak of their career. I think we’ve been a bit naive in the way that we’ve handled Harry.
