Blame board, players, blah, blah. A good manager gets the best out of what he has... Coaching them, improving them.. Beilsa did it at Leeds with championship players.. Made them better. Lampard isn't a coach or manager, like Gerrard stick to TV and Co commentating...

Unfair on Gerrard, given the job he did at Rangers

Me and you could manage Rangers and at least be runners up.

Simon Weaver of Harrogate - over 700 games. Helps when the chairman is your Dad, I suppose.

Was it?
Took a club which have finished 6th the year before to finishing 6th again.
I dunno, Everton are a mess and lacking structure but Lampard hasn't really set the world alight at any place he's been to.

Yes it was and where he built his reputation. He clearly can manage but maybe jumping from Derby with no expectations to Chelsea and then Everton with a very different set of players and egos is a very different proposition. It reminds me very much of Nathan Jones situation - clearly demonstrates good management skills at one club which aren't necessarily transferable directly to another club.

Problem is "big name" players get an easier shot at big jobs, even if they arent any good or haven`t built up the experience.Premier league is a huge jump.Bryan Robson was the best example - great player - got job after job based on that. Shit at all of them. Southgate on the other hand didnt set the world alight in the jobs he had pre England, but now Englands most successful manager since Alf Ramsay

But. these sort of jobs don,t come up often. If he,d turned them he,d have been accused of not having the bottle to take it on.

But with a transfer embargo, loads of kids and anticipated relegation he actually gave them a fighting chance.

I think their meltdown happened after he left.
When he was there he signed 12 players, including Ashley Cole.

i think most clubs would be happy with that.
A lot of these threads are just personal and anti Everton crap.

Yes. But I absolutely hate Everton and would give me immense personal satisfaction to see them relegated but FL is hardly the biggest issue. Hopefully this sacking will paper over the cracks and they will remain in trouble.

I haven't forgotten or forgiven Everton for the 13th April 1985 (perhaps I need to learn to move on!).

Re: Everton

Bit of a difference, one is an evil organisation the other is a football team. The word hate is banded about too freely nowadays and is unbecoming of a man of the cloth, hang your head in shame.

I'm not sure why though, probably as they seem to always escape and that game against Wimbledon looked very suspect.
