    EON Electric energy saving scheme

Posted by Bright Spark on 24/11/2022, 16:15:53

    Anyone else take part yesterday.

They set me a target of a 40% saving on my usual usage for 1 hour yesterday. If I achieve the saving they give me money off my bill.
I wasn't home during the said hour so no lighting, cooking or heating ect, tv on standby.
They say I achieved "39%" of my energy saving target so do not qualify for any repayment. Not sure how I can save any more electric usage as I am not home and nothing but the necessary being on.
Seems a bit of a con.

I wouldn't touch EON with a barge pole.

      Shit customer service.

My wife subscribed and we “earned” a discount of £2.61 for reducing our energy by 81%.

          How did you manage that?

Turned the heating down 1 degree to 17 degrees, only essential lighting, no cooking and avoided use of external security lights.

              No cooking?
What do you eat, if you don't mind me asking?

You only reduce power for an hour.

                  Ok.
So going out for a walk or whatever will work.

If you reduce your electricity usage, turn off as much as you can.

Well, surely no-one uses more electricity than they have to?

Will try to explain. Eon offer a payment off your bill if you reduce consumption at certain times, 1 hour on varying days, they pick a random day and message you a couple of days before asking if you want to take part.
You may not want to cook in that hour or do washing/ tumble drying ect. You may want to reduce lighting, eg turn off a porch light, security lighting ect, you might unplug some electrical devices, tvs, computers such like. You may want to turn off your central heating for an hour or turn the thermostat down. All this saves electric, if you save enough in that hour it qualifies you for a reduction in your bill.

So actually many people are using more electric than they need to in that particular hour.

Thought it odd I just missed the target and short of turning off the supply at the mains I don't see how I can achieve the target, but good for you.
