    World Cup actions

Have we heard anything yet on what will happen to teams and players that do things unacceptable to the authorities there? Fines and penalties have been discussed apparently right up to the last day but nothing said publicly as far as I can see.

How was that a compromise? FIFA said dont wear them, we said ok.

It's a compromise because of other things that the authorities there will let go/accept.

England, Wales and several other countries have backed down after FIFA threatened that anyone wearing a protest armband would receive a yellow card.

I can't recall a football rule or law that says wearing a particular armband results in a caution. If there is then ok, I stand corrected, but you just can't alter the laws of the game a day prior to a tournament.

FIFA say it relates to their rule of no political statements: wasn't there a similar fuss about poppies a year or so ago?

Yes just re read the laws and it appears they can can caution players for this type of "offence" although I believe it is arguable.

Isn't taking the knee a similar statement?

One of the most pathetic capitulations I have ever seen.

Wear them. If they get booked, keep them on and if they get sent off so be it. The matches will be over in 30 seconds.

It would be a huge embarrassment for FIFA and maybe would actually enforce this “change” that all the apologists keep talking about.

              +1

Pathetic to back down yet again. It seems like Qatar will just do what they want. In the past FIFA have insisted on everything being done their way: I wonder if yet more 'brown envelopes' are influencing decisions?
