On Saturday evening there was a fatal vehicle crash on the M6 near Preston. Sadly a 3 year old and a 79 year old died. With all lanes blocked, witnesses have revealed that about a dozen drivers caught up in the aftermath of the crash, used the hard shoulder to get past the crash so they were not delayed. Some of these witnesses have passed their dash cam footage on to the police to identify the culprits. A few others have stated that since coming out of lockdown, they have noticed that peoples attitudes have changed and particularly with driving, with more people becoming a lot more selfish. Anyone else noticed this?

Yes definitely, only last Friday I came off at Junction 11 to go to Hockliffe. On that straight bit of duel carriage way , I indicated and moved over to right hand lane,as there were numerous HGVs in left lane, almost instantly I was being flashed from behind from a car that came from nowhere…. I obviously had nowhere to go, so he accelerated and Sat no more than a yard from my bumper with all lights on full and blaring horn. Made me feel uncomfortable, as we got to the big A5 roundabout, he cut in front of an HGV, and shot off towards Dunstable.
Probably happens to people hundreds of times a day, sort of could understand if I was tootaling along at 40, but I was going 65!!!
No, partly because people will then moan about "they should be catching criminals, not harassing motorists".

I think the selfish driving thing has been steadily getting worse for a long time now. Anecdotally, I've noticed that whereas a lot of the aggressive driving (as I remember it) used to be very predominantly male I think that's evening out too.
As for roundabouts, especially the mini ones, the way a lot of people drive them is astoundingly bad. Larger ones are often seen as good places to overtake and when coupled with poor lane discipline . . . so very many easily avoidable accidents.
This morning, as I was driving into Bedford, a woman coming the other way did a U Turn, hardly reducing her speed in doing so, came across the road and into the bus lane and drove in the bus lane before going through red lights further up the road. Not sure if there was a number plate on the front of the car but there wasn't one on the back of it. Those lanes have cameras on them but, if there was no number plate on the front, they probably won't be able to do anything.
Actually it always makes me laugh watching the number of people who cover or alter their number plate when driving into Sainsbury's car park on a match day to avoid the parking charges.

For years now I have noticed the 20s to 50s age groups are all about greater speed and thoughtless on the road. Inconsiderate towards other also comes to the fore.

Not sure what the point is. Only so many people can actually help. We don't know the reason for departing the scene. Certainly getting out of the way for emergency services makes sense.
