                          But a civilised society should pay people a salary commensurate with their usefulness to that society, and accept that being a member of a union does not mean they’re a rabid Communist.

                            I read today that the average nurses pay was about £35k. Coupled with the benefits and job security, it’s hardly living on the bandwagon, sorry I mean breadline.

                                But the thing is that every public sector job has a very important role in society. Think teachers, doctors, nurses, bin men, borderforce control, librarians, job centre workers, council workers, military, police, fire service, etc. As such they should be paid a similar higher salary.

                                Communist values perhaps but the value is that society would break down without them.

                                But the same is true of businesses in the private sector providing employment for other things that people need. Retail, groceries, IT, transport (although arguably done of this could be nationalised).

                                We need the public and private sector to work hand in hand but unfortunately greed has got in the way of this.
