Truss currently project to deliver 61 seats for the Tories:

What *That* YouGov poll could look like in a General Election:

                  LAB: 498 (+296)
                  CON: 61 (-304)
                  SNP: 36 (-12)
                  LDM: 29 (+18)
                  PLC: 4 (=)
                  Others: 2 (+2)
                  GRN: 1 (=)

                  NI: 18

But as Crumpsall writes above don’t you vote for your local MP rather than Truss or does that argument only work when those posting it want it to ?

Not sure that has any relevance here: that poll is surely about intention to vote Tory, not 'for Truss'?

The relevance is that polls ask what party you would vote for in the next election ….not what MP.
However many regular claim ( only those in Islington voted for Corbyn) that they vote for who they like the most locally .NAG often mentions it .
My point being that I might favour a Labour Government but if my local MP had done a fantastic job for the local 20 years I might vote for them.

My stance entirely, though Labour have a massive majority here. I didn't like my MP for a good few years so voted Green a couple of times: his recent record has been good though so I voted Labour last time.

I haven't voted Labour in council elections in years as I thought my councillor, Richard Leese, also head of the council until recently was untrustworthy.

I accept that there is a general instinct to vote for the party not the person though.

I think that’s why showing such a swing from Tory to Labour is bollox. Don’t get me wrong if we had an election tomorrow they would get an 80 seat majority easily but the Tory MP for Clacton would still get voted in.
                            It’s misleading .

Well yes I don't think anyone actually thinks the Toiew will only get 60idh seats.

Point is, if Truss is leader at an election then local MP's will either have to distance themselves from her or risk losing votes if they support her.

With the increase in mortgage rates, which landlords will pass on to renters, 99 per cent of the country will be worse off by the time of the next election.

It is, the way it is represented in some contexts, but if seen as a reflection of the 'mood of the country' it's spot on.

This lot do not reflect the traditional Tory party: I think Rowan Williams got it right when he said at a talk I attended 'that party seems to have evaporated'.

That realistically won`t happen. Labour majority of 100 or so i`d say. Which is still too large for any party (I did say the same at the last election - too large a majority for the Conservatives). When ANY party has that big a majority its not good - there is nothing to hold them to account

That's actually generous compared to most of the calculators out there.

                          Electoral Calculus gives the following:

                          LAB 564 (+361)
                          SNP 51 (+3)
                          LIB 8 (-3)
                          PLC 4 (=)
                          CON 3 (-362)
                          GRN 1 (=)
                          OTH 1 (+1)
