    Car Advice, Imported or Not.

    Help

Bought a 2nd hand german car.

HPI checks done prior to showed all clear and not an import.

On checking insurance - registration number not on insurance database.

    Entered details manually.

Emailed dealer to enquire about the spec of car to ensure correct one insured.

Told by dealer car coming up shows imported from germany.

Nothing about this on V5 logbook.

Waiting to hear back from dealer ref. more details as to the spec to ensure ive insured it correctly.

Waiting to here back from DVLA to see if registered as import as nothing on logbook.

    Any advice people.

Some checks i did said GDPR information not available from germany.

What would you do if DEALER SAYS IMPORTED, DVLA SAY NOTHING OR NO KNOWLEDGE AND HPI CHECKS SAY NOT IMPORTED.

Who to believe as insurance would need to know wouldnt they.

Strange situation so any advice welcome.

    thanks

Anything remotely dodgy then avoid like the plague. There are so many second hand cars out there you'll soon enough find something else that fits your bill.

Indeed, hand it back, retrieve money, go somewhere else.

Unless it's a ridiculous deal and/or the fact that it's an import makes it especially desirable and you can be bothered with the agg to sort it out.

        Cheers, Jim

If it has been imported and the import tax hasnít been paid you could find yourself liable for it as the owner.

100% agree with TPDC, if it does not look right, walk! Could be an insurance write off in Germany, rebuilt and imported. how would you know? Mind you chances are, an imported car would be LHD from Germany.

Check the MOT status. Only buy a car that has an exemplary history. Normally a sign of a well maintained car. The odd FAIL/Immediate PASS for minor things are acceptable. MOT check to me, is just as important, as an HPI.

I've checked all the history and looks fine. First mot 15k in 2020.

Chap I bought it from says he bought new for his daughter.

What I dont understand is how if it's not registered as an import with dvla it gets a v5 and registration number for uk.

One check shows place of registration was Wimbledon.
