    Back three the issue

Yesterday showed how much we miss Naismith bringing the ball out. He offered us both the ability to step into midfield - or indeed further - with the ball and the incisive pass, often long and cross field, making it difficult for opposition teams to hold their defensive shape.

Whereas playing Potts and Bradley as LCB and central CB effectively meant no progression at all down the left, as Potts is too cautious and Bradley has no ability to control the ball quickly. So Osho, as RCB, was our only viable option for playing out from the back, and he was quickly closed down once Brum worked that out. This meant that we took far too long to get the ball to anywhere dangerous.

Burke will be more effective than Osho, but we badly need a better option than Potts at LCB. Maybe thatís Bell, with Doughty or Fred at LWB.

Agreed, that would be my take, though the comment below about lack of goals, even with Naismith in the team at the end of last season, is an issue. Whatever people think about Pelly, we lost our edge without him.

Lack of goals is hardly relevant. We played Freeman who had hardly played before, it is the first game of the season, lets see how things pan out after a few more games. Also the first competitive match with Morris and Adebayo playing together.

Cornick was injured earlier in the week.
And he had the best chance to score yesterday. Failed to hit the target.

Presumably because he isnít left footed, and Nathan felt Potts would offer better left-sided distribution.

                  And Osho has more pace.
