    Derby/Forest

Posted by Dauntless on 24/11/2021, 15:11:12

1420 Hatters made the trip to Nottingham last night.

A month ago, 950 went to Derby.

Nottingham and Derby are almost the same distance from Luton give or take a mile and the journey times are similar.

The Forest game followed on from an away game at QPR, which puts pressure on demand.

The Derby game was in the week before half term.

How comes a significant amount more went to Forest?

Didn't want to give Derby any money. It would have only gone to the administrator and football debts; and not the the local companies that supply them with services.

All of which happened under previous owners over ten years ago.
Our current owners are all supporters who run a tight ship and do everything by the book.

          Which team do you support?

Thanks all for the replies. I went to both.

Forest definitely has that walk over the bridge and is a nightlife capital. Even the Derbians go into Nottingham for a night out and there's a 24 hour coach service between the two.

Whilst Derby's ground is "out of town", it is walkable from the train station and centre.

I thought the atmosphere was a bit flat in the first half last night but the second half was better.

Forest is a much better away day, atmosphere there last night was brilliant.
          Nice ground too!

I think we had more because people skipped last Friday night (hence the non sell out)in London, at £34 a ticket and probably aggro, especially if your from Bedford and Northampton way.
Forest away is a far better away day than Beirut (aka QPR).

Nottingham is a great day out. On a Saturday. An all dayer in London was better than the few hours on a Tuesday night in Nottingham.

The price was the main factor for me. For Derby, me and two under 18's over £50. Forest a much more reasonable and sensible £30.
Would Forest have made more money from having an extra 500 luton fans at a cheaper price? Maybe.
It was good turnout last night and on the whole good atmosphere. Nice ground.

Much better for a drink before the match, better “match experience” the walk over the Trent to a proper ground?

It's a really easy train journey via Bedford.

                        Derby isn't.

Nottingham to Manchester is a crap journey though!

Credit to EMR there is a 22.20 train direct to Luton from Derby.

The journey home for me today was not to bad, changes at Tamworth and Crewe but timings worked well. Thought there were direct trains from Manchester to Nottingham, thought about going that way myself..

Yep, it's direct, just slow. As is the drive: it's not far to Nottingham but an awkward journey.

Belting night in the company of the late Tiddles, wasn't it!

Do many people take the train to midweek games when there's issues getting home afterwards?

Yes, not a clever move by EMR to make Derby/Sheffield inaccessible to a lot of stations south of Leicester.

Derby is an out of town modern bowl of a ground where the home fans have a drum and 'chant leaders'.
